Gods plan for all time for humanity has been, as was the case in Eden, to have dominion over creation and to extend the area where Gods will is done God’s way over the whole earth. In our specific era of what many would refer to as the “last days” we know from Malachi’s prophecy that God’s strategy for accomplishing the expansion of his rule through us (advancing the Kingdom) is to join all generations together to overthrow the curse that will otherwise be upon the earth. Course Overview

Business by Design™ is designed to enable you to maximize your own assignment’s alignment with God’s purposes. Through it you will have all the tools you need to craft a strategic roadmap that is in step with the Spirit and resonates with the people you serve through that business, the people who join your team, the people who supply you with needed inputs and the communities in which you operate.

The course is taught in 4 modules:

  1. Clarify and articulate what you already know to be true about your business and its purpose.
  2. Validate your hypotheses for creating value for each of your stakeholders.
  3. Build a fully integrated strategic plan to execute your business purpose.
  4. Translate your plan into the language of financial capital as well as human, social and natural capital creation.

Objectives Of Course, by Module

Module 1:

Clarify and Articulate Your
Current Status

  • In this module, you will put what’s in your mind onto paper to show what you have already gained in understanding of your purpose and how you will fulfill it.
  • In doing so, you will discover any gaps that you had not yet thought about or made conclusions about. This will set you up to use tools in next section in a focused way.
  • You will probe deeply into the question of heaven’s purposes for your business, and any innovations given to you to address unmet needs in the earth.

Module 2:

Define and Validate Your Ability to Create Value for all Stakeholders

  • In this module, you will learn to use proven tools and communication formats to gain customer / stakeholder insights into what they value and how they need you to deliver it to them for maximized impact.
  • You will also learn to think about the value you are creating in a holistic way. While the financial returns and gains for customers as well as shareholders are essential, they are  not a complete picture of the issues that can undermine your business’s longer-term sustainability. You will learn to integrate all these considerations into your validated purpose.

Module 3:

Building a Strategic Plan that enables you to accomplish your purpose.

  • In this module, we add additional proven tools that enable the creation of a fully integrated roadmap for your future.
  • The components of this roadmap that must stay aligned with each other include technology development / acquisition, product development, specific customer acquisition / market penetration targets and the talents and capabilities needed to execute.
  • This roadmap represents your journey from where you are now to achieving the Kingdom purpose for your business.

Module 4:

Crafting the Proforma Financials that demonstrate ability to sustain a viable enterprise over short and long term.

  • You will develop a traditional set of financial statements that coincide with the strategic roadmap you have created, including a projection of P&L statement, Cash Flows analysis, and Balance Sheet over the next 2-5 years of your business.
  • You will craft the P&L to directly communicate what your year-by-year investments are to create future viability. Both in format and in use for planning, this will give you a confident basis for making financial decisions.
  • This module will also share recent findings and business practices from Economics of Mutuality (see www.eom.org) to enable you to project your plans to remain sustainable in the fullest sense.

Format of the Course

Business by Design™ can be delivered over a Zoom® or equivalent platform and live participation is expected. Each teaching unit will be recorded and made available for review by course participants. During each session, as each new tool or concept is taught, the instructor will engage one or more participants in at least a partial completion of that tool using the participants specific business. By this means all other participants will gain insights into how to take what they are learning and use it to gain the insights given by using that tool / learning process. Should questions and difficulties remain, the help sessions will offer opportunity to gain further input. In the Instructors experience, until a person has to explain his / her thinking to someone else, many gaps remain hidden and glossed over. Consequently, the inter-Module reviews with advisors is a requirement.

When Business by Design™ is taught in a virtual format, it  typically takes 9 weeks. It can also be delivered in a 5-day workshop at your location.

Follow-Up Options

Upon completing this course and having defined a clear, integrated, purpose-driven plan for your business, if further coaching is needed either on the plan itself of in pitching it to others, Dr. Leman can be retained in a consultative role. A second course in Pitch Deck Design for impact is also available

Instructor Bio

Dr. Greg Leman is a business strategy coach and startup mentor. His career began in the Chemicals and Materials industry, where he led technology development, plant operations and product line growth over a 25-year span at global firms including Dow Chemical, Cabot Corporation and Great Lakes Chemical. At Baylor University he was the founder of a curriculum in Technology Commercialization, and a technology business accelerator. He has mentored and coached over 200 ventures in past 15 years, and is currently a founder of a novel green materials firm, Vertek Materials. This course is based on these experiences. He further draws on a life-long passion for bringing Christian faith and marketplace calling together.
